Howie I came across your name . I rmember that Gerald gave it to me years ago . I hope you are well

June 21, 2017

Hi again, Mr. Powers! Have you heard the title track from Roger Waters's new album "Is this the life we really want"? It reminds me of your stuff so much - the lyric, the vocal delivery and the tiny twists in the chordal movements/arrangement. I love both of you as songwriters (and as performers of your own material), so it's kind of cool to listen to a Waters track and feel like I'm listening to a Powers track. Or maybe it's just me...

Dear Mr. Powers
Your song "Don't Nobody Move, This Is A Heist" has been an inspiration to my so called career. Since hearing your song I have written and recorded a series of songs in an attempt to re-create the bewildering awesomeness of your work. Someday I hope you'll be able to hear can I get them to ya? I've recently moved from LA to Chicagoland.

1971, 72 We were friends, played music, worked on your songs for live performances. I left NY and came back West(home) and have thought of you many times. Memories of Barble sic, Fire Island, "Dear Emily RSVP" and so much more. I still play music, working in bands, with song writers, studio etc. Drop me a note. JB

April 9, 2016

Never ever realized that some of the music that I heard on the radio, was written and/or co-written by you. What a small world we live in. With that said, I am so glad to have gotten to know you, through your music, videos and your blog. Keep up the good work. Don

Could I ask about your song "We're The Banana Splits" from 1968?

April 9, 2015

Sad news...Arnie Plant passed away March 26th of undiagnosed Metastatic Brain Cancer. He never knew he had it. He passed quickly and peacefully. Thought you might like to know. He was 78.

March 6, 2015

Here you are making me smile
Thinking about you brightens my day
Memories of our times together
I never imagined it would turn out this way

Cherishing the moments
Playing make believe
The Ring Master wearing all black walks in
Those days were extra special indeed

Standing amist cherries
You sing a song for me
The circus that spins around us
Is our reality.

Warm or cold
Our laughter I still hear
You and The New Yorker sitting next to me.
I will always hold dear.

I'm one of those people who saw 'Don't Nobody Move' once back in the 80's and never forgot it! Thanks for posting on youtube. And I didn't know that was you as 'Jimmy Two Times' - I'll tell my sister __Maxx

Mr. Tony,
I met Producer / Director Joe Tornatore in Newark last Sunday [ 9-21-14 ]. He doesn't know you but I told him about your "Heist". I thought he should know you.
Years ago you sent me the video and that impressed me.
I'm still thankful.
Hope all is well with you and your career.

Hello Mr. Powers, "Big Bad World" is one of my favorite girl group records. Since Daisy Records was so short lived, it should have been reissued on Red Bird or Blue Cat. I was wondering if you can shed any light on who Cathy Saint is. I'm guessing that this is not her real name and it seems that BBW is her only single. The flip of the single, "Mr. Heartbreak", was co-written by the lead singer of another of my favorite girl groups, Barbara Jean English. There's a lot of energy packed into that single! Any info on Cathy Saint is much appreciated. Thank you for all the great songs you've given us! Regards, John Clemente, Author -- Girl Groups -- Fabulous Females Who Rocked The World.

Hello, Mr. Powers. It's Toni from Finland. I've written to you before - looks like it was in 2009. I'd just like to ask what you're up to. Any new music coming????? I must say that I still love Who Could Imagine as much as I did when I first bought it. In fact it's one of my "desert island" albums. (Recently found out a way to play Disposable nicely with a capo on the 3rd fret) I mentioned Randy Newman earlier, and now I would like to add Ron Mael to the list. Powers, Newman & Mael (in no particular order, but Powers is first here, of course, because we're in his website) satisfy me immensely lyrically and musically, but each one gives me something the other guys can't provide.
I believe I said this before, but the market for your "shit" may not be huge, but the people who like it, love it to death. Any plans for a new album??

Wow! I have been following your "Barking in the dark" for a couple months now, and just a short while ago, clicked on your gravatar and found myself here. Quite a bit you have done! Didn't realize I was blogging with a celeb! :) Goodfellas is one of my favorite movies, and I knew exactly who the character was when you listed that. I have enjoyed our blogging together, and look forward to more GOP and right-wing fun!

I said it before and I'll say it again, "How do ya" is a masterpiece. I listen to it a lot. Everyone should hear it all over the world. I love your version of your own piece, but I would also really like to hear some other singers do a version. All the music on "Who Could Imagine" thrills me. Cartoon is another hugh favorite. Such good stuff. Keep on my friend.

August 2, 2010

Remember the Present - Many's the Slip Twixt the Cup and the Lip!?!? Well, I was the singer and guitarist. I have been living in England for the past 10 years. Did you know that Many's the Slip was a big hit in the north of England in the 80's and is still played in some clubs? Our band continued to play and was an opening act for Van Morrison, The Young Rascals, Lovin' Spoonful, etc. One of the band members opened a recording studio in NYC and is still running it. Sounds like things have gone well for you. I still play in various bands and write. Maybe I'll have a chart topper!! Take care, Ron

August 1, 2009

I saw this video shortly after I was born in 1982, and I never forgot it. One of the coolest and funniest songs/videos/experiences alive.

July 12, 2009

Joel Selvin

July 7, 2009

Hey Tony - Hit me with an email. I've got some questions for you about a book I'm writing. Cheers.

April 28, 2009

Hi Tony,

I have been a fan since the days of Night Flight, but over time my memory is faltering. I remember a film/video with a song in which you kept repeating the phrase "real estate". What is the name of this song and what LP is it on (if any). "Heist" has always been a favorite of mine.

I love the new music and look forward to hearing more of your wonderful music and seeing more or your insightful film/videos.

Nick Tremulis

April 3, 2009

Funny how I got here to find you. On the road in the eighties. I walked in a club somewhere in some town to take the stage for a while and saw Heist about half way through it and told myself I'm going to find out who this guy is. But it was the eighties and i was busy trying to find other things. Today it all came back to me in a flash as the debris of my mind sometimes does and I found your video on utube. Still sounds great. Still fun to watch. Just got off the road again and I'll pick up your cd sometime after I'm through getting fucked by the IRS. Best, Nicholas Tremulis

Mr Fred

April 3, 2009

My god man,,, I have looked for your "heist" video for over 20 years and finally found it. Only ever saw it 1ce on MTV in 83 or 84. THANKS for the great work Tony

Toni Lehto

January 13, 2009

Hi there. "Who could imagine" just arrived in the post today. It always feels great to listen to artists who have the ability to make me laugh and cry almost at the same time. Like Randy Newman. I seem to get a similar feeling listening to this stuff. I've always loved "Odyssey" on the KISS album, but it's good to finally hear a whole album of your stuff.
Incidentally, the chord progression/descending bass in "Sadly" reminds me of Bowie's "Wild-eyed boy from Freecloud". It's not identical, but a similar vibe. Are you familiar with it?
Anyway, I love your stuff!

Gary DeBerry

January 8, 2009

What Up TONY.good job on the video's, your music is timeless. I am the bass player on Heist album. Good to see your still in the game...Be blessed

Tony hope you remember me in the 60's you discovered me under the El in Sunnyside, Queens singing with Ricky & The Hallmarks - you brought us down to meet Ellie/Jeff (Trio Music) in the 60's the rest is history - Management and Production under Lieber & Stoller with Ellie & Jeff - then on the Big Time Productions (The Tokens) -had a number of records out - first one on United Artists (Jerry Ragavoy (It Was Me Yesterday)- then Rust, Jubilee, BT Puppy - etc. Also was an original 'lypsync vocalist' (never on the recording) on the traveling group of Ellie's group, The Raindrops - Through the years, I've always been working and performing at rock and roll shows, plus recordings, pop and standards - my collectible cd is called "the secret's out' - she's the kind of girl you can't forget, Beverly Warren.

I, myself lived in New Orleans and was the original 'Valerie' in Vince Vance & The Valients - they still call me Valerie down there.

- Hope you remember me - How our introduction began was I believe you were on the road to the White Castle in Sunnyside, Queens and heard the group under the El hitting notes and singing Skyliner material; you stopped; liked the sound - gave us your card and initiated us down to the Brill Building - Would be great to hear from you - as you started my journey .... and by the way I'm still a really great singer who is always looking for work, too.

Hey Tony,

Thanks much for the comment on my blog (linking to "Don't Nobody Move..."), located at I wrote you through YouTube, as I wasn't sure how to contact you. I can be reached at the attached e-mail.

Suffice it to say I've had "Don't Nobody Move..." in my head for the last two decades, and lovin' it! I look forward to hearing your latest tunes, your prior credits were a great revelation to me.

That song and video is absolutely steeped in NYC. And wonderful as hell.

March 4, 2008

PS: Nothing personal, looks like JG with the mannequin ... And the greatest video of all time.

March 4, 2008

This is a Heist --- looks like Joseph Goebbels.

February 15, 2008

I'm a huge Kiss fan, and Odyssey has always been my favorite Kiss song. It wasn't until recently (you tube) that I heard your version. It's absolutely BRILLIANT! You're version is unbelievably better than Kiss's and they are my favorite band (of course it is your song!). This discovery has lead me to midnight trampoline and Don't move. Absolutely fantastic. On par with the anything in the past 30 years. You sir are one in a million.

January 31, 2008

Tony, glad to see you around on the internet and that so many people do know and remember your hillarious and funky "Don't Nobody Move" cut and video.

For many years ive been a fan of that entire musicfilm and bought a copy when it was still in print years ago. "Odyssey" and "Midnight Trampoline" are also great tracks with great production. They just dont make music like this anymore.

Im also happy to say that ive finally after almost 2 decades of searching, have finally located a copy of your 5 track EP "This Is A Heist" on Trans Lux. When I recive it in the mail I plan to do a vinyl to digital restore on it.

Heard the samples of your new LP as well, sounds like some good stuff (even the recut of "Dont Nobody Move" sounds like you used the same backing track with some added percussion..nice!).

Just wanted to leave this comment here to let you know there's yet another person out here who has really dug your stuff for many years.

DJ Jimmy M

P.S. Even though your part in "Goodfellas" was brief, many love your one line "i gotta go get the papers the papers"..should make a tune simmaler to "dont nobody move" off that line LOL
